House Portraits: Wonderfully unique and personal gifts.
The images below include part of the story of how each project was approached. Painting is a versitile media, allowing for the inclusion or exclusion of landscaping elements or nearby structures. Open communication between artist and client is vital in producing the desired end result.

12" by 14" Victorian
Recently completed, the gardens were a focus of the rendering of this beautiful old victorian home. As a final touch, the little gray cat who spends its time enjoying the porch and gardens was perched on the front steps.

14" by 18" Farmhouse
Once a horse farm, this home has a classic New England feel. The goal was to capture the late day, late Summer glow of the region. The neighbor's home to the right was easily edited out, so as not to distract from the subject.

16" by 20" Lake House
This view from the lake best captured details the client wished to include in the finished painting. Though not in the photo provided, in the final result the flag was made to flutter, and the client's dogs were added in: one looking out at the viewer, the other resting with a tennis ball.

14" by 18" Block Island
This home had been recently built, and so was still without landscaping. Rosebushes were added around the foundation, and a hanging plant to the porch to create a more "lived-in" feel.

14" by 18" Walnut Street
Several photos were taken of this home at different times of day, and at different angles. Trees obscured much of the view, and so were set slightly back in the final painting. The goal was to capture the sparkling light of a sunny mid-summer day.

14" by 18" The McMahonsion
This home was an old family estate, long since remodeled. The photo was small and faded, but contained enough information, with the help of the client, to recreate the home as it once was. In the photo the tree to the left partially obscured the view, and the top right portion of the roof was cut off. In the final painting, the foliage was moved slightly away from the home, and the roof reconstructed through conversation with the client. The original color of the home was a very pale green, not at all apparent in the photo, but easily reproduced.

14" by 18" Chicago
This was another family home, recently sold. Important elements to the client were the shrubs in the front and the blue spruce to the right. The spruce had been removed prior to the photo being taken, and so detail was given by the client regarding the approximate size and location of the tree.

18" by 24" Winter Cabin
The goal with this project was to create a contrast between the cold winter landscape and the warmth of coming home.

14" by 18" Warren Street
Another family home, this client asked that it be represented in winter. Photos of the granite details, along with those of the home both in summer and winter were used as reference.

16" by 20" Beech Street
This home was tucked between several other homes built up around it, requiring the use of a more creative composition. Important to this piece was to capture the feel of the warm setting sun.

24" by 36" Salmon Street
A historic home since renovated into office space, this client chose an angle that best captured the architectural detail of the structure. The light is warm and intense, while not obscuring important details in the porch shadows.

8" by 10" Camden
This is a smaller piece painted on board, rather than canvas. The goal was to capture the lush moodiness of the Maine seacoast in mid-summer.
